Central Information Commission

The Central Information Commission has been brought in for the implementation of the Right to Information. The Commission consists of a Chief Information Commissioner and Information Commissioners (not more than ten). Provided that the  Chief Information Commissioner and the Information Commissioner shall be appointed by the President on the recommendation of a committee. The committee will consist of the following members-


* Prime Minister, who will be the chairman of the committee;

* Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha; And

A Minister of the Union Cabinet to be nominated by the Prime Minister.


The Chief Information Commissioner and the Information Commissioner shall be persons of eminence in public life having wide knowledge and experience of law, science, technology, social service, management, journalism, mass media, or administration and governance.


The Chief Information Commissioner and the Information Commissioner shall not be a member of Parliament or a member of the Legislature of any State or Union territory or hold any other office of profit or be associated with any political party or carry on any business or profession. The headquarters of the Central Information Commission shall be in Delhi and the Commission may also establish its office in other places in India with the prior approval of the Central Government.
