Ethics Case Study - 10

Question - In Indian traditional society, parents are often unable to differentiate between discipline and repression, which affects the personality of the child. The child does not get the opportunity of expression,  due to which his personality becomes opaque in the future. What should be done to troubleshoot this problem?

Answer –  Traditional values still exist in Indian society. There is a need to evaluate these values and establish new values. India's middle-class and lower-middle-class society is so engrossed in its daily problems that it does not have enough time for children and if time is available, then they have neither energy nor patience to listen to children. In such a situation, children do not get the opportunity for self-expression, due to which gradually their personality gets compressed.

Later on, the personality of the child becomes opaque. It lacks transparency. He cannot keep his words properly. Transparency is a modern value. Without this, a good administrator cannot be expected.

Parents should listen to their children and give them the opportunity to express themselves. Children should not be neglected because they do not have enough understanding. The lack of understanding is natural in them, but it is the duty of the parents to remove this deficiency with continuous effort. Often parents take care of the other needs of the child, but parents do not take the time to build the personality that is most important to them. The middle-class society needs to be aware of this context.
