Q: You get information through your mother that your neighbor's wife is pregnant. Your neighbor has got her ultrasound done and he came to know that the baby in the womb is a girl. He has decided to abort his wife. What would you do in this situation?

 

Answer –  The social problem of female feticide is actually due to the dowry system and the attitude of considering the girl as alien wealth. Until the dowry system is not curbed and until the mentality of considering the girl as foreign money does not end, then there does not seem to be a proper solution to this problem.

 

As far as female feticide of neighbors is concerned. In this context, my moral obligation is that first of all I should try to convince her that in the present context there is no difference between a boy and a girl and if the girl is well educated and financially independent, then the possibility of dowry problem becomes less.

 

I will also apprise her of the fact that she has already committed an offense by conducting a prenatal sex test. Which can be reported to the police. Along with this, we will also make him aware of the ill-effects of female feticide and try to develop in him the social moral understanding that if other people also commit female feticide like him, then what will be its social consequences and if he is aware of all these facts. If he tries to commit this criminal act even after being aware,  then I will undoubtedly file a written complaint with the police.
