Ques - 40% of the no. when added to the square of the same number, then it is increased to 4040% of itself the actual no. is :
(a) 175
(b) 400
(c) 40
(d) 120
Solution -
Let,
The actual number = x
According to the question
40% of x + x² = 4040% of x
(40/100)x + x² = (4040/100)x
0.4x + x² = 40.4x
x² = 40.4x - 0.4x
x² = 40x
x * x = 40x
x = 40x/x
x = 40
Hence,
The correct option is (c) 40.
