Districts of Uttarakhand – There is a total of 13 districts in Uttarakhand out of which 6 districts come under the Kumaon division and 7 districts come under the Garhwal division.

1. Almora:

Almora city is located in the Kumaon division of the state of Uttarakhand. It is situated at an altitude of 1646 meters above sea level. Almora was founded by Raja Balo Kalyan Chand in 1568. Almora was the capital of the Chand dynasty kings who ruled the kingdom of Kumaon.

Bageshwar is located in the Kumaon division of the state of Uttarakhand. Its average elevation is 1004 meters (3214 ft) above sea level. Bageshwar district was established on 15 September 1997.

7. Nainital:

Nainital district was established in 1891. It is situated at an altitude of about 1938 meters (6358 ft) above sea level.

9. Pithoragarh:

Pithoragarh was established on 24 February 1960. The old name of Pithoragarh is Sorghati. The word 'Sor' means lake. It is believed that earlier there were seven lakes in this valley. It is situated at an altitude of 1695 meters above sea level.
