Eighty-first Constitutional Amendment, 2000

The amended provisions of the Constitution through the 81st Constitutional Amendment-

The State was empowered to treat reserved category vacancies that could not be filled in any year as a separate category of vacancies to be filled during other subsequent years. Such vacancies should not be clubbed with the vacancies of the year in which they are filled and they should not be considered to be included in the reservation limit of 50 percent of the total vacancies for that year. In other words, this amendment did away with the limit of reservations up to 50 percent in case of backlog vacancies.
