Eighty-fourth Constitutional Amendment, 2001
The amended provisions of the Constitution through the 84th Constitutional Amendment-
The ban on the re-scheduling of Lok Sabha and state assembly seats was extended for 25 years (till 2026). This was done to limit the population. In other words, the number of seats in the Lok Sabha and the Legislative Assemblies will remain the same till 2026. It was also arranged that the re-determination of constituencies in the states would be on the basis of the 1991 census.
