Epic Period - History of Madhya Pradesh
- Ancient M.P. during the Ramayana period. There were dense forests of Dandakaranya and Mahakantar. Vindhya, Satpura, the southern part of Yamuna, Gurjar region were included in this.
- The Yaduvanshi king Madhu was the ruler of this region and was a contemporary of King Dasharatha of Ayodhya.
- Some time of exile of Lord Rama was spent in Dandakaranya.
- Rama's son Kush became the king of Dakshina Kaushal.
- Shatrughati, son of Rama's brother Shatrughna, ruled over Dasharna (Vidisha) whose capital was Kushavati.
- The area from the Yamuna to the Godavari was politically the land of Ayodhya.
- The kingdom of Ravana is said to be Amarkantak or Jabalpur region.
- Mother Sita gave birth to Luv-Kush in Valmiki Ashram. This ashram was on the banks of the river Tamasa (Tons).
- After the Tretayuga of Ramayana, the Dwapar era of Mahabharata started.
- Bundelkhand and Baghelkhand helped the Pandavas in the Mahabharata war
- (Vats, Vedas, Kashi, Dasharana (Vidisha), Matsya district)
- The Kauravas were helped by Mahishmati (King Neel), Anvati, Bhoja, Vidarbha, and Nishad states.
- In the Mahabharata, Mahishmati, Ujjayini, Kuntalpur, and Viratpuri ( Sohagpur ) are referred to as M.P. Major cities.
