(Hans von Aachen or Achen; Cologne, 1552 - Prague, 1615) German painter, one of the most prominent in this country in the transition period between the 16th and 17th centuries. Born in Cologne, he traveled to Venice in 1574 and was brought up in contact with the figurative culture of late Italian Mannerism.

Later, Duke William V of Bavaria called him to Munich to carry out several works, including portraits of the ducal family. Emperor Rudolf II invited him to Prague, a city where he settled in 1592 and where he would remain until his death.

Hans von Aachen mainly painted mythological subjects and portraits. His work can be placed within Mannerism, with clear influences from Bartholomeus Spranger and Antonio da Correggio.
