How to regain motivation?

How to regain motivation?
Posted on 21-03-2022

Sometimes we feel tired, disconnected, or bored. Even in what we like to do so much.

There are many reasons why we lose motivation at certain times. First of all, you can't be motivated all the time. There are always fluctuations in mood and energy. And if this did not happen, we would have to consider what happens to that person who does not allow himself a certain passivity and relaxation.

On the contrary, the person who is never motivated and who is always in a state of stagnation or low energy will also have to work on the reasons for this rather chronic state. What is expected is that a certain fluctuation is experienced, and to be able to respect the different moments and needs that arise.

However, and as much as there are periods in which we will have to tolerate a certain lack of motivation, there are actions that can help us recover it, and many others that perpetuate the state of stagnation.

To regain motivation we sometimes have to allow ourselves to play and get out of the place of full duty. Daily activities, chores, and occupations sometimes disconnect us from what we really want. If we allow at certain moments a reconnection with certain aspects of childhood that enable play, curiosity, and exploration, ideas may begin to resurface and motivation may be awakened.

Very inflexible routines, excessive productivity, self-demand, poor work environment, among others, are enemies of motivation. Motivation requires space for reconnection with enjoyment and desire. If it is not, that energy that drives us to develop and grow is lost. That is why it is so important that work be done with motivation, and with generating spaces where the creative deployment of those who are part of it is allowed.

Conversely, too much free time can also kill motivation. Being sedentary can generate frustration and anxiety. That is why a relative balance is necessary.

Working automatically, living automatically on a daily basis cancels motivation or does not allow it to unfold.

A good resource to regain motivation can be to take a few days off and think about doing what we like, what is not going to be evaluated by anyone, and spend that time doing it. Being in contact with nature, and with what inspires us: books, movies, art, music, material, and information that generates curiosity.

It is important at this time to be able to prioritize this before spending leisure time doing activities also automatically: watching series or using the cell phone without having a real interest or connection with what we are watching. These habits perpetuate the blockage and do not help us get out of that place.

Motivation, as we said before, is related to creativity, play, imagination, and the development of playful aspects that often do not take place in everyday life.

Sometimes stopping and answering a simple question can help us break certain routines, and empower us to build others:

What are you passionate about? What do you like? What do you enjoy doing? Reconnecting with this allows us to take it more frequently into everyday life, awakening motivation in the different areas of life.
