Ques - In an examination a candidate got 30% marks and failed by 30 marks. If the passing marks are 60% of the total marks, then the maximum marks will be:

A) 450
B) 600
C) 300
D) 100

Solution -

Let,

The Maximum marks = 100x

A candidate got 30% marks = 30/100 × 100x

= 30x

Failed by 30 marks,

Therefore,

The passing marks will be = 30x + 30

Again,

The passing marks are 60% of the total marks

Therefore,

The passing marks = 60x

A/C

60x = 30x + 30

60x - 30x = 30

30x = 30

x = 1

Therefore,

The Maximum marks = 100x

The maximum marks = 100

Hence,

The correct option is (d) 100.
