Inauguration of UNMESHA and UTKARSH Festivals Celebrates India's Cultural Diversity

In recent news, the President of India inaugurated two significant cultural events, namely the 'Unmesha' – International Literature Festival and 'Utkarsh' – Festival of Folk and Tribal Performing Arts, held in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. These festivals were jointly organized by Sahitya Akademi and Sangeet Natak Akademi with the aim of celebrating inclusivity and the rich cultural diversity of India.

UNMESHA:

Unmesha is India's most inclusive and Asia's largest literature festival, showcasing an impressive representation of languages. This year's 'Unmesha 2023' is set to host more than 575 authors in 102 languages, with participation from writers belonging to 13 different countries. It is the second edition of the festival, with the first one taking place in Shimla in June 2022.

UTKARSH:

Utkarsh is a festival that celebrates and highlights the vibrant world of folk and tribal Performing Arts in India. The event serves as a platform to showcase the incredible heritage of these expressive art forms, allowing traditional artists and performers to display their talents and preserve the priceless cultural legacy of diverse communities. Utkarsh plays a crucial role in nurturing an appreciation for indigenous arts, underscoring their intrinsic value in today's interconnected world.

Sangeet Natak Akademi:

Sangeet Natak Akademi is the apex body in the field of performing arts in India. Established in 1953, its primary mission is to preserve and promote the vast intangible heritage expressed in forms of music, dance, and drama. The Akademi awards are the highest national recognition conferred on practising artists, and it also grants Fellowships to eminent artists and scholars in the fields of music, dance, and drama.

Sahitya Akademi:

Sahitya Akademi, India's national academy of letters, was established in 1954 by the Government of India. As a premier literary institution, it preserves and promotes literature in twenty-four Indian languages recognized by the Akademi through awards, fellowships, grants, publications, literary programs, workshops, and exhibitions. The Akademi also engages in literary exchange programs with various countries to promote Indian literature worldwide.

Both UNMESHA and UTKARSH Festivals represent a significant effort to celebrate India's rich cultural heritage, promote linguistic diversity, and provide a platform for artists to showcase their talents. These events serve as crucial initiatives in preserving and promoting the nation's artistic and literary treasures, making them accessible to a wider audience both within India and beyond its borders.
