Lunar Codex: Eternalizing Human Creativity on the Moon Amidst Turbulent Times

Lunar Codex is an ambitious project aimed at preserving human creativity for eternity on the lunar surface, even amidst challenging times such as war, pandemics, and economic crises. Spearheaded by Samuel Peralta, a semi-retired physicist and art collector from Canada, the program seeks to create a lasting record of human artistic expression.

This extraordinary collection comprises a diverse array of digitized art gathered from 30,000 artists, writers, filmmakers, and musicians representing 157 countries. The included art forms encompass images, magazines, books, podcasts, movies, and music, divided into four capsules. To ensure the safe delivery of these art forms to the moon, they are stored on memory cards or laser-etched onto NanoFiche, a modern update on film-based microfiche technology.

The first capsule, named the Orion collection, has already circled the moon on the Orion spacecraft during NASA's Artemis 1 mission last year. In the upcoming months, several lunar landers will be deployed to transport the Lunar Codex capsules to various destinations, including craters at the moon's South Pole and a lunar plain known as Sinus Viscositatis.

Through the Lunar Codex program, human creativity in its myriad forms will be immortalized on the lunar surface, offering future generations a glimpse into the artistic achievements of our time, irrespective of the challenges faced by humanity.
