Major Fairs in Bihar

Shravani fair

Shravani fair is organized in an area of ​​105 km from Sultanganj to Deoghar (Jharkhand) in Bhagalpur district of Bihar. The famous Ravanaeshwar Vaidyanath Jyotirlinga of Deoghar is one of the Dwadas Jyotirlingas. It is also called as Kamna Linga.

Fair of sonpur

Every year in the month of Kartik in Sonpur, this fair is being held continuously since 1850. This fair is the largest fair in the world in terms of rural and cultural and in terms of livestock in Asia. The Leela of 'Harihar Kshetra' and 'Gaj-Grah' mentioned in religious texts are related to this region.

Pitru Paksha Mela

A huge rural fair is organized on the occasion of Agrahayan Purnima in Sitamarhi of Nawada district. It is believed that Luv-Kush was born there during Sita's exile, due to which women pray to Videhandini to have children in the cave-like temple there and after getting children, in a rock-like pit near the temple, they ' Gadtar' (a piece of cloth) is offered. Legend has it that there was an ashram of Maharishi Valmiki in a village called Warat near Sitamarhi. This village and Taal Tilaiya i.e. is on the bank of river Tamasa.

Zanjarkad Festival
