Bhotia

  • The border parts of Tibet and Nepal in the state are called Bhot Pradesh. The people residing in the Bhot region are called Bhotias.

Tharu

  • Tharu tribe considers itself as Rajput from maternal side and Bhil origin from paternal side.

  • Tharu people earn their living by doing agriculture.

Buxa or Bhuxa

  • Buxa people reside in Bajpur, Gadarpur, Ramnagar, Dugadda, Doiwala, Vikas Nagar, Sahaspur development blocks of Dehradun district located in Terai Bhabar.

  • Widow marriage, gharjawai and polygamy are prevalent in Buxa society.

Shoka
