Religious Places of Uttarakhand

Following are the major religious places of Uttarakhand:

Char Dham

1. Kedarnath :

Kedarnath Dham is located in the Rudraprayag district. It is one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country. Kedarnath Dham is situated at an altitude of about 3581 meters.

2. Badrinath:

Badrinath Dham is located in the Chamoli district. It is the most important of the Panch Badris. The doors of Badrinath Dham open in the month of May and close by the end of November. There is a source of hot water here which is called "Tapta Kund". Its altitude is 3133 meters above sea level.

3. Gangotri:

Gangotri Dham is located in the Uttarkashi district. It is situated at an altitude of about 3048 meters.

4. Yamunotri:

Yamunotri Dham is situated at a distance of 30 km from Uttarkashi. It is situated at an altitude of 3293 meters.

Katarmal Sun Temple:

Katarmal Sun Temple is located at a distance of about 15 km from Almora. It was built by Raja Katarmal. The main idol here is that of the Sun and the idols of Kubera, Mahishasurmardini, Shiva-Parvati, Narasimha, Lakshmi-Narayan, etc. are located here.

Chitai Golu Devta Temple:

Chitai Golu Devta Temple is located at a distance of about 12 km from Almora. This wish-fulfilling temple is highly recognized.

Jageshwar Dham:

Jageshwar Dham is situated at a distance of about 40 km from Almora. It is situated on the banks of the Jataganga and has a group of 124 temples. These temples were built by the Katyuri king Shalivahana Deva.

Dunagiri:

Dunagiri Temple has located about 5 km from Dwarahat. It is considered one of the 51 Ugrapeeths of Mother Shakti.

Bagnath:

Bagnath Temple is situated at the confluence of the Gomti-Saryu River in the Bageshwar district. The Bagnath temple was built in 1602.

Patal Bhubaneshwar:

Patal Bhubaneshwar is located near Gangolihat. This temple is very recognized.

Nanda Devi:

Nanda Devi Temple is located in the city of Almora.

Naina Devi:

Nainadevi Temple is located in Nainital. This temple was built in 1882.

Tungnath:

Tungnath Temple is located in the Rudraprayag district. It is situated at an altitude of 3750 meters.

Haat Kalika:

Haat Kalika Temple is located in Gangolihat. This is the Siddha Peeth of Mahishasuramardini.
