Ques - When 5 is added to numerator and denominator both of a (positive) fraction, then the new ratio of numerator to denominator becomes 11 : 15. What is the original ratio ?
(a) 17 : 25
(b) 3 : 5
(c) 28 : 40

Solution -
Let,
The fraction = x/y
According to the question
(x + 5)/(y + 5) = 11/15
15(x + 5) = 11(y + 5)
15x + 75 = 11y + 55
15x - 11y = 55 - 75
15x - 11y = -20
11y - 15x = 20
Since,
We have only one equation in two variables, so we can't find solution.
Hence,
The correct answer is option (d)none of these.
